Everyone has a story. We tell it with food. Food is used to mark significant celebrations, commemorations, and everyday life. Yet everyone’s experience with food over the course of their life is different and unique. Food Lives is a service that works to capture an individual’s distinct experience with food at key moments of their life. Through Food Lives, we tell personal narratives with food which signifies one’s life journey.
Food Lives are curated histories that connect the food of a specific date or span of time with an individual’s own important life event(s). Food history narratives are personalized to fit a noteworthy date, event, or activity of a family, friend, or work colleague such as a birthday, anniversary, wedding, special day, or as a condolence gift. Food histories can also be designed to capture the history of a favorite food or food brand of the gift recipient. These one-of-a-kind gifts are perfect for a food enthusiast, who is interested in learning more about food in historical contexts. The gift boxes can be tailor-made for all ages.
Food Lives are customized narrative booklets and kits, which include the following:
- Food history narrative booklet of the time period or favorite food
- Historical recipes that enable gift recipients to prepare dishes with the foods shipped in the meal kits (10 recipes)
- Optional add-ons – companion book, utensils, ephemera, other objects related to the food history

$125-150 kit – Food history booklet with 10 recipes, add-on option to accompany food narrative (companion book, postcard, poster, cooking tool, etc.)
