War touches everything around it, including people’s food and food security. Long after war is over, its remnants remain, creating links with the past, present and future. The preservation of food traditions, invention of new foodways, and the fusion of old and new consumption practices meld in conflict and around the memory of it. This weekly vlog will explore the impact of war on food and society, and conversely the impact of food and society on war through a discussion and preparation of recipes that emanate from the rubble of conflict. The videos will focus attention on the wars of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries around the globe. Specifically, the vlogs will examine the connection between diverse home fronts and conflict as viewed through the lens of people’s production, distribution, preparation, and consumption of food.
